If you feel you have not been particularly \u2018stressed out\u2019 over the past year or so, it may be that anxiety started after a specific incident, known as a \u2018trigger\u2019.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is also a very common reason for developing anxiety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have found that people are more likely to suffer anxiety disorders after experiencing any of the following: bereavement, divorce, moving house<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\" title=\"\">,<\/a> surgery, illness and violence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are other triggers of course but these are typical and frequent ones. If you have developed a more \u2018specific\u2019 phobia, such as claustrophobia, you may have been stuck in a lift or on the underground and it is therefore probable that this triggered your current anxiety. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-therapy-for-anxiety wp-block-embed-therapy-for-anxiety\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/therapyforanxiety.org\/what-causes-anxiety\/\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><a href=\"https:\/\/therapyforanxiety.org\/what-causes-anxiety\/\">What causes anxiety?<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Think back again to events that have occurred over the past few months now. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have you experienced anything which caused you considerable anguish at the time?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><br>Having said this, some people who experienced a particularly traumatic incident during their childhood<br>find that their \u2018experience\u2019 stays with them into adulthood, although they may have consciously<br>forgotten it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, a child who was frightened during a thunderstorm may grow into an adult with<br>an irrational fear of storms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety which is caused by specific triggers usually starts very soon after the trigger and so is more easily traced to its source. For example, a bad flight may lead immediately to anxiety about further air travel, and a traumatic experience at the dentist may lead to dental phobia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Specific stressful events.
